Football is here!!!! Football is here!!!!
...and I don;t mean pre-season...no my friends, I'm talking the real thing...the whole shebang...my reason for getting out of bed on Sundays!!!!! For a girl, I'm super obsessed...if I was a guy I'd just be average, but it's a double-standard, andI'm OK with that... frankly, I don't like it when girls watch football...they just don't get it, and they ask stupid questions, or if you take them to the game, they spend the whole time trying to watch everyone else to see if they should cheer, or just completely ignore the field and talk about anything but the game you spent 100 bucks a ticket to go and see....or worse yet...they flip straight through the program they give you to the cheerleader section to read about their grueling career...(pukes a little)....
.....so....I started thinking about the season and what kind of predictions I had...for the Colts and for the Chiefs since they are my favorites...although I think I may have to follow the Cowboys a little closer this year...with the acquisition of T.O. and Vanderjagt.... they got a sweet looking set up...I can see good things happening for them... but if you're not a football fan, I'd just stop reading now...if you don't know anything about football, it's OK if you're interested, read on...I will break it down into as simple of terms as I can... and here's a link to a football dictionary in case you need clarification of anything...but if you're a fan...take my predictions and assumptions with a grain of salt...I am not a sports broadcaster and I don't spend countless hours memorizing useless stats and analyzing game tapes..... I'm always reluctant to openly digress about football, some ass always decides he'll "out-stat" me or just simply ignore me because of my gender...it's pretty strange and annoying really, but this is the safe confines of my blog, so my opinion rules!!!! So here we go, kids....listen closely...you might learn something:
The Colts
Ok, for starters and newbies.....last year the Colts were looking pretty sweet with a 13-0 (that's 13 wins) season....then the Steelers sweeped in and simply out played 'em to serve them their first loss (something like 28-21..) and then they choked in the play-offs.....but that's usual... that's just about the 5th straight year that we've had a winning season and then needed the Heimlich Maneuver after the first game of the post-season.... The team is looking damn good thus far and the Colts are essentially injury-free and have been for 3 years.. (this is a red flag though, because the luck's gonna run out sooner or later...and Manning is thus far injury-free in his career....makes me a little uneasy) The team's lost some big players...but I think they drafted awesome this year, not waiting around to pick a 6th or 7th round back-up running back, but going hard in the first round, getting Joseph Addai to replace The Edge (Edgerrin James) who went to the Cardinals via free agent I believe. Now, Addai brings alot with him, he was responsible for a lot of yards as LSU, but his style isn't the same, and let's face it...he's a rookie... Rhodes is gonna have to step it up and play with the patience of the previous master if the Colts are gonna continue using their running game as effectively as they have. Next.... we lost Vanderjagt...... (cries a little).....(we was the kicker, for the newbies) I liked him...but apparently he was a nightmare off the field so they shipped him to the Cowboys... they like the drama down there I think...they're like a magnet for high-profile players....but we got Adam Vinatieri from the Patriots... he's a tryed and true Super Bowl hero...he kicks off and hits the FG (field goal) when it counts....an element most of this camp is missing. They signed the guy to a 5 yr 12 million dollar contract...so he'll probably be around for a while....he might like it.... the weather in Indy is a lot more mild than New England, and he won't have to try to fit into the locker room around Tom Brady's (NE's Quarterback) big overgrown ego..... Offensive line in general is the key element this team runs on...their ability to get the ball in the endzone...Peyton Manning (QB) is the star here....he has a quick release from the snap which keeps him from getting sacked (the guy NEVER gets hit) and a great line protecting, all of which are pretty much sticking around the year. Saturday's still center.....that's good, he's big :) We still got Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne as wideouts (the wide receivers, newbies) both of which can be counted on for 1,000 yard seasons if history teachs us anthing (Harrison has 6 straight 1,000 yarders and Wayne has 2) and I think the Colts will remain strong here. Stokley (who could miss the season opener with a sprained ankle) is a key here in my opinion. With the loss of Edgerrin, he needs another 2004 season. (in 2004, he caight 68 passes for over 1000 yards and had 10 touchdowns) but fizzled last year with only 1 TD.....but the defensive line needs to pull it together if they're gonna keep the other teams in check. We lost Tripplett (defensive tackle, methinks?) and Thornton (Linebacker) but still have Freeney who alone had 11 sacks last year, and Gardner can cover the strong side for Thornton. All in all, it's shaping up to be another great season....I'm not worried, but I do have a few doubts. Theoretically, if everything falls into place, we're looking at about a 11-3 season, i think....but I still think the choking will begin once the post season arrives probably leaving us with a 11-4 or or 12-4 (whatever the total is) final tally. I think we're still gonna rock the AFC south, coming out on top without even trying, but the Lombardi trophy is far out of reach unfortunately...... we'll see if you can trust a girl. :)
Sorry for the rant, I usually keep my lips sealed about football, everyone looks at me like I have two heads when words like TD %, and pass completion come flying out...but this was theraputic....thanks for listening....and sorry to bore you all....If you have your own opinions or you agree or disagree, lemme know....I love educated opinions.....I get all excited when people start arguing over facts...but never engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.... I'm out children, I just wasted an hour of my life prophecizing the future for you :-) We'll see how it pans out. Next up: The chiefs....but I'm tired now, it's 2 am, and i have to be up at 6am...so good night children....i love you all.
